A tires “ply” used to be gauged by how many cotton layers were inside the tire. Over the years tires and how they were constructed have changed dramatically. Now we look at Load Range to determine the tires strength. The higher the load range the more weight a tire can support. In modern times the strength of the steel cables and/or the amount of cables per inch along with size of the tire make the determination of load range. Larger tires can hold more air allowing a higher rating as well. The chart above shows today’s load rating in comparison to the old ply rating method. When looking at purchasing a new camper or considering new tires for your current RV, start with solid information. Remember, you learned it HERE at EVANS RV!
